According to Labor Department data (from a WSJ article), Americans quit 39.6 million jobs in 2024, down 11% from the year before and down 22% from a recent peak in 2022.
But, layoffs continue (especially in tech), and now there’s only about 1 job opening per unemployed worker and it’s taking a heckuva lot longer to find work, especially for professional (salaried) candidates. Over 50% longer in the job search based on our 2024 CandE Benchmark Research (our 2024 global report is also now available).
Ugh. Well, for now at least, the economy’s still revving and hasn’t driven over a cliff Thelma and Louise style. Sourcing, recruiting, and hiring press on!
